SXPF week! This Monday I went to Autumn McKay’s workshop at UofL and it was super cool to hear about her handbuilding process. One thing that stuck out to me was that she incorporates wheel throwing into her process by using a wheel thrown puki to form her pot base and foot. It’s interesting that a random workshop at Arrowmont completely changed the track of her ceramic voice! :0
While volunteering, I got to talk to so many of the potters and hear about their processes. At the panel discussion, there were so many great explanations and anecdotes on surface illustrations and designs. In the studio, I often feel bummed out about “not making progress quick enough” but I think it’s important to also enjoy my time at IUS and learn about things like mixing clays, glazes, how to fire different kilns, etc. I had thrown a couple bowls this week to prep for wood firing at the end of this semester, and am preparing for a group bisque with Robyn to see how those pinched spoons come out. :D
I also spent some time sanding out pieces with sandpaper sheets from the last wood fire that I put up for sale at SXPF. I’m sorry I forgot to take productive pictures this week here is a stink bug in the clink clay trap and a kool cat.
