This week I made some cone packs for the upcoming wood firing! I’ve made cone packs for glaze 10 gas kiln firings before so this was different and new :0 I learned that becasue the cone packs are not bisqued, they need lots and lots of grog and if you think you are done adding grog add more. I also threw and trimmed some smalls with the high fire red clay for the wood firing! I’ve been using the snowplower every time I throw to trim skirts off before wiring off bats and I love it.
I visited SAIC this weekend to see their BFA thesis show and it was so good! I’ve been thinking of alter/worship spaces in Vietnamese houses lately and ran into installation work by Aylivia Luong, called “Clockwork Mourning,” and I loved the use of an electric motor to have a repetitive performance of sweeping ash.
