On a pause with foam concrete waterproofing construction butch work until hot wire foam cutting kit arrives.
In the meantime, I’ve itched a long-time itch to make spoons. I’ve been loving how my cohort has visible touch marks on their work, and as a result started pinching up some soup spoons. The shape is inspired by spoons I use to eat soup dishes such as phở or canh, which I assume is very familiar to other SEA-blings. I’ve made them slightly larger than what I normally use to accommodate for shrinking, and some smalls for variety. I’m planning on decorating them with nail designs I grew up seeing my parents paint on customer’s nails. I went to see Yoko Ono’s exhibition in Chicago’s museum of contemporary art, and her crowd-sourced piece, I Love My Mommy. It had me reflecting a lot on my parent’s journeys to the U.S. and how it has impacted their perspective on parenthood. It reminded me it was luck that gave me the opportunity to be my parent’s’ child.
Last week, I introduced a new snow plower. My snow plower did not last very long. I said it bended when wet, but it was more so bending because it was fragile, not bendable. That being said, a dear classmate Jill gifted me wood to have another chance at it. I really enjoy cutting and sanding the wood. It’s super nice to create shapes I find myself wanting to pull out of a magician’s hat when creating in the studio.
See u next week :0 stay safe till then
