Monday was a really great workshop with Ellen Kleckner and Linda Tien. They’ve been collaborating for a decade and shared the stages of their project with IUS. I really loved the concept of incorporating collaboration casually in all aspects of your life. When you cook a meal, you are collaborating with the tools, and ingredients to create a plate. As an artist, you can collaborate with another artist, with material, and with tools. Big or small, thinking about the connections between medium, influence, and tools was interesting and exciting.
On Wednesday, I started my mockette. At first, I cut out a 1 inch thick foam board, because that is what I had most of but then I soon realized that to make a joint, it would be easier to have more material to work with so I moved onto a 2 inch thick board. Instead of adhering foam board together to create the basin/walls for slaking, I just used a trimming tool to carve out a recessed area. I’m hoping that a tongue and groove is enough. I’m a bit concerned about concrete application effecting the joinery, but I’ll have to get to that challenge next week.
