This week was big prep for the upcoming wood firing and deep cleaning for the Phoebe Scott demo and talk. Phoebe visited all of the post-baccalaureate students, gave feedback on my work, and shared many Asian artists to reach out to. We talked specifically about Asian American ceramicists and the possibility of connecting with them. It felt really nice to hear that so many other Asian American clay artists exist. In particular, Jennifer Ling Datchuk and Adam Chau really stood out to me. Phoebe also pushed me to move forward with my slaking word art.
I’m sketching plans to make another concrete basin for the SpaceLab show, but I’m struggling to finalize the design because the space is limited and shared with two other classmates, Sarah and Emma.
Grace showed me how to grind the kiln shelves. She used a power tool to grind the faces of the shelves, and I used a hand tool to grind the sides. Caitlin also showed me how to confidently load a bisque firing! I feel like I finally have complete knowledge of how to stack the posts and shelves and run the program. :D
